Fantasy Overgrown Cathedral - Thesis Project

A Baroque-Inspired fantasy cathedral existing in the metaphorical and literal overgrowth of a depressed man shunned by society. He turns the soil of his shame in his thoughts, where brambles burst forth and make a home in his head, nurtured in its own beautiful destruction.

This is three and a half months of work that I did for a team project with my fantastic thesis partner Pris Chng Sern Hui, called What Ruins a Rose. It was a huge project and challenged not just what I understood about 3D and 3D software, but also how to design a completely imaginary space. I pushed my design fundamentals to the brink and challenged myself to combine organic sculpting and hard-surface modelling, as well as create various types of foliage in SpeedTree, and set dress beautiful but massive architecture in a small space. There's still a lot of work to do, but for now you can view the concept art I made for the thesis earlier this year here:

Responsible for all modelling, sculpting, texturing, compositing and lighting in my area. Brambles and moss were made by Pris, with the moss master material created with the help of Brian Cummings. Some textures were taken from the Adobe 3D Asset Library. Lit with Lumens.
